I love sweet potatoes in pretty much every form. Roasted whole, mashed, in baked goods, and especially in French fry form! These sweet and smoky fries are one of my number one ways to enjoy sweet potatoes.

These baked sweet potato fries accompany tons of meals as a perfect side dish. Serve them with baked salmon and vegetables, or with a hearty veggie burger!

What’s in sweet and smoky baked sweet potato fries?

You just need 6 ingredients to make these fries. You probably have most of them all in your pantry right now!

  • Sweet potatoes: The star of the show! I recommend Jewel or Garnet sweet potatoes for these fries. You can also use Japanese sweet potatoes for a milder flavor. I would not recommend using purple sweet potatoes, because of their low moisture content.
  • Avocado oil: This is my favorite oil to use for high heat cooking. You can use olive oil here, too.
  • Cinnamon: This spice really brings out the sweetness in the sweet potatoes.
  • Smoked paprika: This spice adds the smoky flavor to these sweet and smoky fries. Note that smoked paprika is different than regular paprika.
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How to make this recipe

  • Slice sweet potatoes into long, thin French fry shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Toss in avocado oil, spices, salt, and pepper.
  • Roast in the oven, flipping once halfway through.
  • Serve immediately.

Tips for making this recipe perfectly

  • Choose medium sized, long, symmetrical sweet potatoes. Since we want to cut our sweet potatoes into a specific shape, choose similarly shaped potatoes. While we love funky shaped produce, the symmetrical ones work best to maximize how much of the potato we can use.
  • Cut fries into equal size shapes. Do your best to cut each fry into the same size and shape. This ensures even cooking.
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper. This helps prevent the fries from sticking, making them easier to flip and remove.
