Ingredients in Greek yogurt marinated salmon

Everything you need to make this salmon recipe:

  • Salmon
  • Plain Greek yogurt – I used 2% low-fat
  • Orange
  • Fresh ginger
  • Garlic
  • Cilantro
  • Ras el hanout seasoning – a Moroccan spice blend
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Ingredient substitutions

  • If you can’t find Ras el Hanout seasoning, you can use curry powder or garam marsala
  • You can use this marinade for other protein sources, like shrimp or even tofu
  • Use another fresh herb in place of cilantro, like mint, parsley, or basil

How to make Greek yogurt marinated salmon

  1. Make the yogurt marinade: mix together Greek yogurt, grated ginger, grated garlic, olive oil, orange juice, finely chopped cilantro, Ras el Hanout, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place salmon filets in a baggie and add the marinade, then seal the baggie. Use your hands to push the marinade around so it coats the salmon.
  3. Lay the baggie flat in the fridge and let the salmon marinate for 30 minutes.
  4. Transfer the salmon to a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake salmon at 400 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, then broil until the top and edges begin to brown.

Grilling instructions

You could also grill this marinated salmon instead of baking it. Spray some oil on grill grates, and heat grill to medium-high heat. Place the salmon, skin side up, on the grill.

Close the grill, and let the salmon cook for 6-8 minutes. Flip and let the salmon cook for another 6-8 minutes.

Salmon will be finished cooking when the flesh is opaque, and a meat thermometer reads 145 degrees F when inserted into the thickest part of the fish.
