Coming from someone who dislikes spicy foods, I actually adore buffalo sauce. Before I was a pescatarian, one of my favorite foods was buffalo chicken. I always love to try plant-based foods with a buffalo twist.

These buffalo chickpea quinoa meatballs are not short on the buffalo flavor! There is buffalo sauce first mixed into the batter, then each ball is dipped into a coating of buffalo sauce.

How to make buffalo chickpea quinoa meatballs

These vegan meatballs are super easy to make. You pretty much just pulse all the ingredients in a food processor, form into balls, and cook them!

First, pulse together chickpeas with seasoning, herbs, buffalo sauce, breadcrumbs, garlic, and shallots in a food processor. Next, add cooked quinoa, and pulse a little more in the food processor.

Refrigerate the batter, then form them into balls. Cook first on the stovetop, and then transfer to the oven to finish off.

  • As an appetizer with your favorite dip, such as bleu cheese (not vegan), guacamole, or hummus.

  • Add the meatballs to homemade pizza.
  • As an entree with a side of crispy roasted broccoli or brussels sprouts.

Buffalo Chickpea Quinoa Meatballs (Vegan)

These vegan buffalo chickpea quinoa meatballs really hit the spot when you’re craving something a little spicy! Packed with flavor, fiber, and plant-based protein, these bites are the perfect party snack.

  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, mined
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 1 15 oz can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup plus 1/2 cup buffalo sauce, divided
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup cooked and cooled quinoa (I used day old quinoa stored in the fridge)


  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan over medium heat. Add garlic and shallots, cooking for 2-3 minutes until soft and fragrant. Remove from heat.
  2. Combine cooked garlic and shallots, chickpeas, breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup buffalo sauce, paprika, oregano, chives, salt, and pepper in a food processor. Pulse several times until a cohesive batter starts to form, but not so much that it is completely smooth.
  3. Add cooked quinoa to the food processor. Pulse again a few times, so that everything is well combined. 
  4. Transfer batter to a bowl, cover, and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 375F. Remove chilled batter, and use a heaping tbsp to form balls with your hands. 
  6. Heat remaining oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add the balls one at a time, letting cook for 2-3 minutes, then flipping once browned. Cook for another few minutes to get a crispy exterior.
  7. Transfer cast iron skillet with balls to the preheated oven. Cook for 8-12 minutes until warmed through.
  8. Using tongs or your hands, gently dip each ball into the remaining buffalo sauce to coat.
  9. Serve immediately. I served them with bleu cheese dressing (not vegan). See serving suggestions in the blog post for ideas!
