If you’re new here, hi, I’m Alex and I love oatmeal in all shapes and forms! I eat oatmeal for breakfast every day, whether it’s baked oatmeal, overnight oats, or stovetop oatmeal. As a Registered Dietitian I love how nutritious and filling it is. But when it comes down to it, I simply love the taste!

Today, we’re doing this banana bread blended baked oats, and it’s cooked in your air fryer! This is definitely my new favorite healthy baked oatmeal recipe, because it tastes just like warm banana bread. Blending the baked oats ingredients before baking them gives the final product a bready texture, as if you were eating a delicious chocolate chip banana bread muffin.

No air fryer? No problem! I have included instructions for making banana bread baked oats in the oven. This recipe makes three servings. It’s vegetarian, gluten free (make sure to use gluten free oats), and nut free.

What are baked oats?

Baked oats/baked oatmeal is a way of preparing oatmeal in the oven (or air fryer) instead of on the stovetop. To make baked oats, you mix together oats, liquid (usually milk), egg, sweeteners, and other ingredients such as fruit or nuts. Then, you bake the mixture in a casserole dish, and you can serve it right from the oven.

You may have seen blended baked oats recipes going around TikTok recently, so they are sometimes referred to as TikTok Baked Oats.

What type of oats to use for blended baked oatmeal

The best type of oats to use for this recipe is old fashioned rolled oats. You can also use quick oats. Do not use steel cut oats.

Can you make blended baked oatmeal in advance?

Yes! A great thing about this recipe is how well it keeps in the fridge. Just cover the ramekins and refrigerate for up to five days. Reheat them in the microwave for 45 seconds when you are ready to eat.

You can also freeze them for up to three months. To freeze them, let the baked oats cool completely then remove them from the ramekins. Put them in a silicone baggie or airtight freezer container. Reheat them in the microwave for 1-2 minutes until they’re warmed through.

Can you make baked oats in the oven?

You can still make this recipe in your oven if you do not have an air fryer – it just takes more time! To make this in the oven, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Then blend up the ingredients and portion them into the greased ramekins. Stir in chocolate chunks and banana slices.

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and put that in the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the oats have puffed up and a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.

Oats nutrition benefits

Oatmeal is a highly nutritious food to include in your diet. It is a good source of dietary fiber, and contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber is particularly beneficial for heart health. It can bind to cholesterol in your body, and may help lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and blood glucose levels.

In addition to fiber, oats have several other nutrients! One half cup of dry oats provides:

  • 5-6 grams of plant-based protein
  • 1.7 mg iron (10 percent of your daily needs)
  • 55.89 mg magnesium (14 percent of your daily needs)
  • 11.71 mcg selenium (22 percent of your daily needs)
  • 166.1 mg phosphorus (24 percent of your daily needs)

Eggs nutrition benefits

Eggs are an excellent source of protein. One large egg provides 6 grams of high quality protein. In addition, eggs contain lots of other nutrients! One large egg has:

  • 0.45 mcg Vitamin B12 (19 percent of your daily needs)
  • 0.229 mg riboflavin (18 percent of your daily needs)
  • 1.00 mcg Vitamin D (5 percent of your daily needs)
  • 0.88 mg iron (5 percent of your daily needs)
  • 15.25 mcg selenium (28 percent of your daily needs)

Eggs also contain an important nutrient, choline. This nutrient is not found in many foods, and is essential for a healthy nervous system, metabolism, muscle movement, liver function, and brain development.
