As a Registered Dietitian, my favorite recipes are those that are simple, quick, nutritious, and delicious. This cottage cheese ranch dip recipe fits the bill in all these categories!

In addition to cottage cheese, all you need to make this dip are a few dried seasonings from your pantry, fresh lemon juice, and fresh chives. It takes 5 minutes to make as everything is whipped together in a food processor. This dip is the perfect use case for making light and creamy whipped cottage cheese!

Once you’ve tried this cottage cheese dip for veggies, check out some of my other healthy dip recipes: avocado Greek yogurt dip, Greek yogurt dill dip, homemade guacamole, and beet tzatziki dip.

This recipe is gluten free and vegetarian. It makes about 1 1/2 cups of dip, which is plenty for a small gathering or party.

Ingredients in cottage cheese ranch dip

You need just 7 ingredients to make this recipe, most of which you probably have already in your pantry!

  • Cottage cheese: Cottage cheese is a curdled fresh cheese with a mild, salty flavor. For this recipe, I recommend using full fat or reduced fat cottage cheese because it has a richer flavor and creamier texture when whipped.
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Dried parsley
  • Dried dill
  • Fresh chives: You can sub dried chives if you are unable to get fresh ones. See the recipe card at the end of this post for instructions.
  • Fresh lemon
  • Salt to taste – Cottage cheese is a high sodium food. You may find that this dip is salty enough without adding any salt. Make this dip without salt, then add a little bit to taste if you think it needs a little more salt.

Kitchen equipment needed

To make this recipe, you’ll need:

  • Food processor
  • Measuring spoons
  • Rubber spatula

If you do not have a food processor, you can try to make this dip in a blender. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender a few times.

Step-by-step instructions

Cottage cheese nutrition benefits

Cottage cheese is known for it’s high protein content. One half cup of 4% cottage cheese provides 14 grams of protein. Cottage cheese is also a source of several other nutrients, too!

One half cup of cottage cheese has:

  • 80 mg calcium (6% of your daily needs)
  • 0.71 mcg vitamin B12 (30% of your daily needs)
  • 0.186 mg riboflavin (14% of your daily needs)
  • 10.17 mcg selenium (18% of your daily needs)
  • 151.42 mg phosphorus (12% of your daily needs)

Cottage cheese and other dairy products are a smart addition to a plant-based diet. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein and vitamin B12 – nutrients that may be more difficult to get enough of on a plant-based diet.
