A flax egg (or flaxseed egg) is a vegan egg substitute for baking. It’s just ground flax meal mixed with water, and takes 5 minutes to make. - 1 tbsp ground flax seed (flax meal)
- 2 1/2 tbsp water
- Add the ground flax seed and water to a small bowl.
- Use a small whisk or a spoon to thoroughly mix it together for 15-30 seconds.
- Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
- Stir well again. The mixture should be a gelatinous consistency, similar to that of raw egg.
- If not fully gelatinized, let the mixture sit for another 5 minutes.
- Use as a vegan egg substitute in baking recipes.

To make flax meal, just add whole flaxseeds to a food processor, blender, spice grinder, or coffee grinder. Grind it up until powdery.
